Birds of Paradise: Revealing the World's Most Extraordinary Birds

Birds of Paradise: Revealing the World's Most Extraordinary Birds by Tim Laman (Author), Edwin Scholes (Author). "You’ll initially find it exhausting to imagine that these photos are actual-however they are. These are probably the most lovely images of the world’s most beautiful birds. The birds’ behavior, richly described in the textual content, is as exceptional as their appearance. This can be a guide like no other book." --Jared Diamond, ornithologist and author of Weapons, Germs, and Steel Eight years. Eighteen expeditions. Fifty-one subject sites. Thirty-nine distinctive species of birds-of-paradise, all photographed in the wild for the primary time in history.

“We turned our passion for science, images, and media documentation into a comprehensive imaginative and prescient to share an unparalleled treasure of Earth’s biodiversity with the world,” write biologists and explorers Tim Laman and Edwin Scholes. These treasures are the spectacular birds-of-paradise, native solely to the remote New Guinea region however known the world around for his or her sensible colours, otherworldly plumes, and elaborate courtship dances. For these of us who've been following the BoP's for years, this book is the perfect complement to the BBC documentaries made and the books written on what I really consider are essentially the most fascinating animals on Earth.

The images and text are way past something I've seen earlier than (and I have to say, have quite a collection of fabric on these birds). At first sight, among the pictures seem surreal (the page 2 Greater Chook of Paradise's shot from the canopy on Wokam, Aru Islands, is, by itself, worth the cash spent on this e-book) and not possible to take, but just studying about all of the years of exhausting work it took Mr. Laman, Mr. Scholes and his collaborators to complete these masterpiece, one can really understand what an amazing contribution this e book is to and to future generations who love nature at its best. I've already purchased a copy for a friend and plan to buy more for other pals as a result of I consider the lives of these amazing creatures should be realized by as many people as possible. I cannot consider a greater reward to indicate those that we human beings are only a tiny a part of the animal kingdom, and that many animals are as fascinating as us. As a consumer of a few years of Amazon.com, this is the primary assessment I have ever written, however this book can be the most thrilling item I've ever bought within the web site, and completely worth just a few praising words. I have always had a fascination with the birds of paradise. I'm not sure where or when I first noticed photos of these unbelievable birds nevertheless it was many many many years ago. This is the book I had hoped for and it finally has been printed. I was most fortunate in a visit to the Zoo in Jakarta, Indonesia to have a Higher Chook-Of-Paradise sit on my arm for five or so minutes whereas I fed it mealy worms. You can purchase a small cup of mealy worms from a attendant and then the bird would fly from a excessive perch and sit on your arm waiting to be fed.

The fun of seeing that hen so very shut and with the ability to observe it because it ate was a thrill I will by no means forget. The dents left in my arm from the claws were uncomfortable to say the least however effectively price it to see him so close.

The video "Birds of the Gods" by David Attenborough was also incredible and if you have not seen it it is an absolute must. I hope that the video on this book by Nationwide Geographic to be issued later this month is nearly as good because the book. I did learn another reviewer providing some criticism in regards to the images within the book. I absolutely might discover no fault with the colors or the beauty of the pictures. I notice in some footage that some of the feathers are out of focus blurring them and that is because of the birds movement and/or depth of discipline issues and never the fault of the photographer. The colours of those birds as proven from what I've seen in person and in Attenborough's video are spot on. Their brilliance is nearly unbelievable. The color saturation of the feathers are intense to say the least. I would highly suggest this e-book to anyone who's fascinated with the Birds of Paradise. My solely criticism of the ebook it that I would somewhat have it in a vertical format reasonably than "letter box".
